Hello,
I read German but can't write it well, so I am writing in English. I was born (1943) and raised in Michigan City, Indiana. The Sinai Temple was built next to our house when I was 5-6 years old. We were one of the few non-Jewish families on Wilshire Ave. and I always looked longingly
out our bathroom window, which overlooked the temple parking lot, when the Jewish kids gathered on Saturday mornings for Hebrew lessons, and wished that I was Jewish too. Although my maternal great-grandfather emigrated from Poznan in the late 19th century, no amount of searching has turned up any Jewish family members. But I regard myself as a self-appointed honorary Jew. I remember Rabbi Richter very well and all the Jewish families in our neighborhood. I just wanted to thank you for your wonderful piece about the Richter family.
